Connection of the Airport to the City Centre
Bus number 78 is a 24hours x7 days service which shuttles between all these points via the city centre.
Frequency is between 15 minutes and 30 minutes during the day. At night, the bus number changes to 78N and runs every 30 minutes (00 and 30 minutes past the hour from KTEL Bus Terminal, 20 and 50 minutes past the hour from the Airport). Attention the bus number 79 from the airport does NOT get you to the city centre but to Pilea in the city's eastside.
A ticket costs 0.80 EUR if you buy it from the kiosk (0.90 EUR if you buy it from the automatic ticket vendor inside the bus, exact change needed). It's about a 40 minute ride from the airport to the city-centre.
A taxi ride from the city center costs about 15-20 EUR. It's hard to find one during peak hours (7AM-8AM, 2PM-4PM and 7PM-9PM), so plan early! If you take the taxi from the airport it has additional cost of 4 EUR.
The timetable can be found online.
Urban Bus
The city bus company OASTH runs a total of 80 different bus lines. The fee of a simple ticket (red color) is 0.80 EUR (0.90 EUR on the bus) and it is valid for 70 minutes without busline changes. A 90 minutes ticket (blue color) costs 0.90 EUR (1 EUR on the bus) with one busline changes.
Tickets are bought from a kiosk or the OASTH info points. They must be validated every time you get on the bus. Tickets bought from the vending machine on the bus are stamped with the time of purchase and do not need 1st time validation, however if you change to another bus you must validate the ticket. The 24-hr ticket runs a full 24 hours, so you could explore the city on route 50 in the afternoon, get out in the evening, and get to the airport next morning all on the same ticket.
Maps of the bus lines are available on the company's website.
